Nesting Orientalisms : ウィキペディア英語版 | Nesting Orientalisms
Nesting Orientalisms is a concept introduced by Milica Bakić-Hayden, a visiting lecturer at the University of Pittsburgh. It is based on gradation of "Orients", i.e. otherness and primitiveness. == Background ==
'Nesting Orientalisms' as developed by Bakić-Hayden is a variant of Edward Said's concept of Orientalism. Bakić-Hayden is also sometimes said to have been influenced by Larry Wolff, but in fact she had already used the term 'Nesting Orientalism' in a 1992 article co-authored with her husband Robert Hayden, i.e. before Wolff published his ideas on ''Inventing Eastern Europe''.〔Milica Bakic-Hayden and Robert Hayden, "Orientalist Variations on the Theme "Balkans": Symbolic Geography in Recent Yugoslav Cultural Politics" Slavic review, vol. 51, no. 1 (Spring 1992), p. 4.〕
